We Get Embodied with Holly De Carvahlo

We sat down with Kinesiologist and Naturopath, Holly De Carvahlo to talk about being embodied, present and engaged. Discover more about Spinal Health, Nutrition and more as we explore holistic health together over these next few weeks, leading into Hip Opening April and Spinal Health May.

This may be your first time hearing of Kinesiology, and you’re not the only one! Holly explained the methodology and meaning behind this rising health practice..

“Kinesiology is something that supports you through your whole life. Our posture in Kinesiology refers to ‘how we hold ourselves ‘, intentionally or unintentionally, physically, mentally and emotionally. We’re not brought up naturally to be in tune with our bodies and emotions, but kinesiology helps give us tools to integrate that.”

“If you want to understand yourself more, feel connected to yourself and everyone else, going to that deeper level of understanding, then Kinesiology is definitely something for you. It’s a process of going deeper. life is a mystery, but those little moments of ‘feeling’ is what takes us deeper, it gives us more depth of life. What we often think is the problem, is often not the problem, there’s often something underneath that needs to shift - and awareness helps us realise that.”

Ever felt restless and unsure why, or so frustrated you can feel it in your gut? Turns out, we’ve been holding emotions in our body before we even knew it!

“Our muscles, joints, organs & every part of our body contains & hold emotions as well as past memories & future concerns. Our self-esteem directly links to our posture, as does every thought & belief system. If we are anxious or stressed our body alignment will be completely different to when we are completely relaxed, feeling safe & comfortable.”

“If you’re tuning into yourself day by day, you’re going to want to nurture yourself. The focus behind your motivation makes all the difference as to how and why you’re going to stick with something. Be in the moment, nourish what you need. Live in the day by day.”

You can bring some of this nurturing awareness to your everyday too, and Holly gave us some top tips to use at home.

“Try a cup of camomile tea to soothe before heading to the studio,or picking carob over cacao to reduce the strain on the nerves. The foods we eat affect our meditation practice! Think about foods that don’t stimulate, even before getting into the studio, and see what a difference it can make. It’s about the type of energy, camomile facilitates the natural processes, you’re not going to fall asleep in a class unless you really really need it.”

“Be conscious, be aware of your postures and movement. It can be as simple as adjusting your posture at a red light- giving yourself the moments to catch yourself. Set an alarm an hour to check in, do it for a few days and see what you find!”

“Postural checks are so vital, you don’t know what you don’t know! It’s essential to get the feedback for how we are. “

You can book in for a 30-Minute Postural Check with Holly by calling up her GoVita store in Dural, on (02) 9651 3634 , or email healintohealth@gmail.com . It’s only $50, and can help start your journey to shifting into new energies, balance and movement in the future.

I remember being 5 or 6 and going with my mum to the Marconi Club for aerobics every week. I was supposed to sit up the back with the other kids, but my legend of a mama let me join in with her, as long as we stayed in the corner out of everyone’s way. I don’t remember much from the class, but I do remember feeling incredible energy & joy. To this day it is one of my fondest memories, which is remarkable considering I hardly remember it at all. That’s why when Josh came to me asking if we could put on an 80’s aerobics class, I said yes, even though it doesn’t really fit our studio brand. I knew that it would bring so much light & laughter that we absolutely had to run it! For two weeks after the class, I heard so many stories from everyone who attended. Apparently the atmosphere was like a grand final footy game: absolutely electric! This class will make a guest appearance every now & then on the schedule, if you need any convincing, here are some reviews from its debut. It can only get better! Josh’s class was easily the happiest hour of my day! I couldn’t stop smiling! If I was to describe the class to someone, I’d tell them to expect an hour of positive vibes, high energy, amazing tracks, and a lot of fluro. It’s so much fun that you (almost) forget you’re working out, ‘till you realise at the end that your 80s themed eyeshadow is no longer where it used to be. There was such a great buzz to the class. Everyone was in such high spirits and it made for such a great time. I’d also say that it doesn’t matter if you haven’t tried aerobics before, it really does cater to everyone. Over all; loved it! Daniela M Josh’s class was an eclectic mix of everything great about the 80’s - fast-paced dance combos that were both fun and workout based, moves that channeled authentic 80’s movies and musicals, aerobics mixed with classic pilates moves and a bangin’ playlist to sweat to! I loved every minute and couldn’t stop singing along :) Emily M I had such an amazing time! The music was good and the dance moves were easy to learn. I would recommend to everyone who wants a fun workout but still challenging enough! I can’t wait for the next class! Angela T
