I’m the girl that loves lifting weights. But after completing years and years of the same movements I started to see little of a change in my body and strength. Since I was always training alone I found it harder to push myself as I didn’t have any physical or emotional support to challenge myself. After injuring my wrist in the gym and after rehab I thought it time to complete a different kind of fitness, which would mentally challenge me as well as fitness wise. So I selected to start training Lyra.
Even though I’d been lifting weights for easily 10 years when I started Lyra, I still couldn’t lift myself into the Lyra. I couldn’t hold my body weight and my so called 'gym callous' were nothing against the ones I'd soon develop, I instantly loved it. As I learnt to trust myself and my capabilities in a safe and nurturing environment, the tricks slowly came. Every achievement was shared and celebrated amongst the group, no matter how small it may be.
With each achievement the strength came. I could now do strict full body pull ups, from before I couldn’t even do one, my core strength improved more than any crunches would create and my mobility and flexibility developed as well.
Lyra not only improved my physical strength, but also my mental one too. When you are so concentrated on a move or your routine, the outside pressures and issues fade into the background and in this way Lyra became my mental retreat. For one night a week I could just concentrate on myself and nothing else in the week mattered.
Tackling Lyra was one of the best fitness decisions I have made and I recommend anyone else to give it a go and see if they can flip and fly!
